Music Analogy :: essays research papers

The final years of the 1970s saw the emergence of a newstyle of pop music that would continue in popularity into the premature 1980s. This music was known, by its fans at thattime, as mod Wave(http//www.erols.com/alloyd/adam2.htm). New Wavehad a crabbed style that utilized the synthesist as a maininstrument. The synthesizer was a machine thatelectronically produced music. It gave a certain artificialand metallic feel to the music. The Cure and Erasure, bandsformed during that level of time, were some of the bandsthat implemented the synthesizer into their music. Thoughboth bands fit into the syndicate of New Wave the feel oftheir music is somewhat contrary. To explain the remainderI would have to analyze their tunes. Two examples of theirmusic that I allow for analyze are Friday Im in Love by TheCure and Always by Erasure. The poetry Friday Im inLove by The Cure had a 4/4 meter. The rime began witha pickup by the guitar and led into a backbeat by thedrums. The synthesizer played a continuous riff providingthe tinging artificial sound and in that locations likewise bass in thebackground. There were also sounds towards the arrest ofthe straining that sounded a lot like the theramin. The beatsubdivisions seemed to be triplets beca drop the songseemed to swing and the other subdivisions didnt match. The correct sequence and lengths of the branchs in thisparticular song washstand be best labeled as I8+8 A8 B8 C6 B8Solo8 B8 C6 D8+8 A8 B8 Solo8 Solo8. The labels A andB are to distinguish the two different verses, the label Cstands for the chorus and the label D symbolized the newsection (the bridge). The vocals within this song have adeeper and a more yaup kind of voice than that of theband Erasure. The song Always from Erasure also had a4/4 meter, but unlike The Cure the song did not start outwith a pickup and instead of the guitar the song began withthe synthesizer. There didnt seem to be any otherdistinct instruments besides the synthesizer and the drum, though I did seem to hear the use of the theramin forthe eerie effect. There were also these clicking sounds, butIm expect the synthesizer made it. The groove of thissong was more harmonized and brings to nous the music ofthe early Beatles. The subdivisions of this song were 8thnotes. The sequence and lengths of the sections for thissong can be labeled as I8 V8+8 C8+4 V8+8 C8+4CFADE. The label V symbolizes the verse of the song and
